| When Route66 was an infant in 1936 the U-Drop Inn was built. It was the only eating establishment for a hundred miles along the new highway. Throughout much of its life, the building served as a Greyhound Bus Station as well as a Restaurant and Gas Station. The Tower Station / U-Drop Inn is significant in the area of Art Deco style of architecture. The Tower Station has been featured in many books, movies, magazines, videos, and web-sites relating to historic Route66 and is well known all over the world as one of the most photographed structures on Route66. |
| The Tower / U-Drop Inn received a $1.7 million dollar grant to restore the building and was completed in the winter of 2004. The U-Drop now houses the Shamrock Chamber of Commerce, Shamrock Economic Development and a Tourist welcome / information center with rest facilities available to the traveling public. |
